Banga mayoral bets faced off

KALIBO, Aklan – Three contending candidates of the town of Banga faced off in tension-filled debate sponsored by RMN-DyKR Kalibo yesterday morning.
Mayoral bets businessman Antonio Maming (UNO), incumbent Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Stevens Fuentes (Liberal Party) and reelectionist mayor-lawyer Jeremy Fuentes (PDP-Laban) were present to discuss their platform of government at Latte Café Kalibo in Brgy. Andagao here.
The candidates’ forum serves as a guide for the people to hear the agenda of the candidates on issues in their communities.
Only Dra. Mercedes Imperial (Lakas-CMD), who is strongly backed by Aklan governor Carlito Marquez, failed to attend the forum.
Fuentes, brother of the incumbent mayor, urged his town mates to respect the outcome of the forthcoming mid-term elections. He is also want to enhance the technical and skills development, sustainable sports program and establish direct contact with his constituents in the barangays.
“There is a need for reconciliation of contending parties and candidates after the election to fastrack the developments in the communities,” he added.
Maming said the local officials should utilize the municipal funds to respond to the needs of the community in health, infrastructure, youth programs and peace and order.
The elder Fuentes, who is seeking his second term as mayor, stressed he would continue his development efforts for his town of Banga, one of the greenest town in the whole country.
Mayoral bet Alejandro Arsenio Jr of the town of Lezo, who is pitted against Victor Fernandez of Tibyog Akean, also attended the candidates' forum.
Although, the town of Banga is not cited as an election “area of concern”, a peace covenant signing is scheduled on Sunday, May 6, to ensure a peaceful and organized elections, initiated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP), the Aklan United Media Association and the Aklan Police and Defense Press Corps.
