KALIBO, Aklan – The local coalition of Kusog it Akean and Aklan Independent Movement kicked off the campaign for local elections with style and pageantry.
Clad in their red vest, gubernatorial bet Vicky Ramos joined her vice governor hopeful and former Aklan solon Gabrille “Billie” Calizo in a caravan to the eastern towns of Aklan – New Washington, Kalibo, Banga, Balete, Altavas, Libacao and Batan for the blessing of the local United Opposition (UNO) headquarters yesterday.
The duo was accompanied by Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) bets in the eastern district – reelectionist Daisy Sucro Briones, lawyer Harry Sucgang, businessman Mar Salvador, former Akelco president Rodson Mayor and retired police officer Nemesio Neron.
The UNO provincial headquarters was also inaugurated yesterday morning before the local bets started the motorcade.
In the eastern towns, UNO supporters almost filled up the streets when the local bets arrived in a long motorcade of vehicles with sirens and a drum and lyre corps to signal the campaign season.
Ramos will be running under Nacionalista Party against incumbent Gov. Carlito Marquez of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats and Tibyog Akean provincial chairman.
Banker Maria Bettina ‘Mabeth’ Mobo-Garcia of Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and Dr. Karen Grace Ambito-Galvan of Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) will also run for governor in May 14 polls.
Team Unity composed of Tibyog Akean local bets also barnstormed yesterday the western towns of the province - from Buruanga, Malay, Nabas, Ibajay, Tangalan, Makato, Numancia, Lezo to Malinao led by Rep. Florencio Miraflores and Marquez.
Lakas-CMD bet Vice Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino will challenge former congresswoman Gabrielle "Billie" Calizo.
In the congressional race, Miraflores will seek reelection against former Manila City treasurer Anthony Acevedo, uncle of reelectionist Kalibo town mayor Raymar Rebaldo.
