Five injured in Ceres bus-jeepney collision

HEAD ON COLLISION. A Ceres bus collided with a jeepney yesterday morning injuring five passengers of the jeepney in Tangalan, Aklan, 40 kms. north of Malay, Aklan, the jump-off point to Boracay Island (BRZabal)

TANGALAN, Aklan – Five persons, including a couple, were injured when an Iloilo-bound Ceres bus collided with a passenger jeepney along the national highway of Brgy. Panayakan, this town, about 40 kilometers north of Caticlan, the main jump-off point to Boracay Island.
PO1 Aubrey Ayon of the Tangalan Philippine National Police (PNP) said the Sta. Barbara Iloilo-registered jeepney collided head on with the bus at around 7 a.m. yesterday (Monday).
Those injured – Silvestre Pisaro, 49, of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and wife, Alma, 46; and the driver of the jeepney identified as Romeo Subete, 39, of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo were brought to the Saint Gabriel Hospital, about 20 kilometers east of this town.
The Ceres bus, with body number 530, had just left the Caticlan Jetty port while the jeepney transporting fruits was from Iloilo.
Two unidentified passengers of the jeepney were also brought to the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital for treatment, Ayon said. They sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies.
No passenger of the Ceres bus was reported to have been injured though. Later, they were transferred to another bus of the company.
The Ceres bus driver identified as Felix Manlanit, 51, of Silay, Bacolod City , Negros Occidental is now under the custody of the Tangalan PNP.
The bus is traveling from Cubao to Iloilo and passed through the Caticlan via Mindoro bringing in local vacationers of the Holy Week, part of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH) of the national government.
