Women dominate Aklan politics

KALIBO, Aklan – Women are dominating the politics in Aklan – aside from the Tres Marias.
Three third-termer mayors – Ernesto Templonuevo (Numancia), Denny Refol (Altavas) and Herodutos Ramos (Batan) of Tibyog Akean have chosen their wives as their successors – businesswoman Elverita Templonuevo, Altavas District Hospital District chief Dr. Kathyrene Refol and businesswoman Delfena Ramos.
On the other hand, incumbent Buruanga mayor Concepcion Labindao (Tibyog Akean) decided to field his husband, Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA-Boracay) Water and Sewerage System manager Engr. Quezon Labindao for mayor.
The Tres Marias – Maria Bettina Mobo-Garcia, Vicky Ramos and Gabrielle Calizo – are seeking the top three posts in the province against the triumvirate of Aklan Gov. Carlito, Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores and Vice Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino.
Kusog it Akean stalwarts – Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Daisy Briones and Kalibo Vice Mayor Nilda Tambong, are both seeking reelections.
Of the 17 towns in Aklan, nine incumbent mayors are reelectionists – Raymar Rebaldo (Kalibo), Ramon Legaspi Jr. (Makato), Rex Gubatina (Madalag), Ceciron Cawaling (Malay), Romeo Dalisay (Nabas), Charito Navarosa (Libacao), Dominador Ilio Jr. (Malinao), Roberto Garcia Jr. (Ibajay) and Jeremy Fuentes (Banga), all belong to the ruling Tibyog Akean party.
Lawyer and incumbent Edmund Peralta (New Washington) is anointing his brother, former Aklan fiscal Edgar Peralta, as his most likely candidate for mayor.
Incumbent Jed Tirol (Tangalan) backs his vice mayor, Gene Fuentes, for the mayoral race. Tirol is running for the vice mayoral post.
In the town of Lezo, vice mayor and now acting mayor Victor Fernandez plans to run for the top post again this May, challenging the Arsenio brothers.
Three-termer mayor Teodoro Calizo Jr. of Kusog it Akean has yet to endorse his candidate for mayor in the town of Balete.
