Aklan PNP to test ‘friendly’ scheme
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan – “Thank you for calling our police station, may I help you?” These courteous greeting may soon be the order of the day when you phone a police station in Aklan.
Senior Supt. Benigno “Bong” Durana Jr., acting police director, said he would focus on “internal reforms” in the Aklan Police Provincial Office.
By this, he said, he means making police officers more courteous, well-mannered and approachable.
Just like fast food outlets known for their staff’s courtesy, Durana said he would “pilot test” the “service desk policy” which is akin to a customer service relations desk in business establishments.
Durana, a member of the Philippine Military Academy, Class 1988, said he was surprised with the “stable peace and order environment” of Aklan.
The province’s crime volume averaged 300 incident a year or one incident a day. He said this situation is unlike in his previous assignment in Cubao, Quezon City.
Durana appealed for the support of Aklanons. “Policing the community lies not only in the hands of law enforcers but also in the hands of the people in the community,” he explained.
This coming midterm elections, Durana -- who replaced Supt. William Macavinta – said “the entire PNP, as a public safety and security agency, wants to ensure an honest, peaceful and credible polls.”
