Legaspi joins ruling Tibyog Akean
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan – The long wait is over and it came unexpectedly.
Mayor Ramon ‘Jun’ Legaspi Jr of the town of Makato formally joined the ruling Tibyog Akean local party yesterday morning.
Legaspi, a former member of Kusog it Akean, took his oath before Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez at the Gov. Roberto Q. Garcia Building in the presence of Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores and Vice Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino.
Kusog it Akean is under the leadership of former Aklan solon Gabrielle Calizo, whose brother Teodoro Calizo Jr. is the only mayor out of the 17 towns in Aklan not affiliated with Tibyog Akean.
Legaspi joined forces with former Makato mayor Wayne Malilay to challenge former Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) general manager Leovigildo Mationg in the 2007 midterm elections.
Legaspi, scion of the late former Aklan solon Ramon Legaspi Sr, defeated Malilay in 2004 local elections while Mationg lost to Miraflores in 2001.
“This is a big political development where two warring political opponents unite for the development of the town of Makato ,” Miraflores stressed.
Miraflores recalled that their family reconciled with two-termer governor Corazon Legaspi-Cabagnot before his death in 1999.
Also present during the take oath were Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Jose Yap, Makato vice mayor Nelson Tapuz, incumbent councilors and barangay captains of Makato.
