Security for Asean delegates still in place

BORACAY - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit has been moved to January next year but measures in this island resort remains in place.
For now, however, the Philippine National Police (PNP) can relax. A bit. The summit may have been moved but the “peak season” in this island has started.
Peak season refers to that time of year when tourists flock to Boracay. It starts around October and lasts until May of the following year.
Before the postponement, the PNP placed its personnel here on “high alert” in anticipation of some summit delegates swinging to this world-famous island.
Chief Supt. Geary Barias, regional police director, promised tighter security measures for the delegates from 10 Asean nations.
For now, however, the focus of the police’s attention are not the summit delegates but the regular tourists enjoying the island.
Boracay has also started its one entry, one exit policy, enhancing in Cagban jetty port is now implemented, Barias added, the security measures of the Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office.
When the summit blasts off next month, Barias said more uniformed policemen will be deployed to the Caticlan jetty port, the main-jump off point to the island, and the Cagban jetty port.
“The security in the island is a regular concern of the police even if there is no international gatherinG," Barias said.
