BORACAY - Department of Tourism (DOT) assistant regional director Helen Camarista said that the hotel and resort owners whose establishments have been damaged by the recent Typhoon Seniang are now fasttracking the repair works to ensure that their tourist visitors could not be inconvenient.
Atty. Camarista further said that the telephone communications line has now been restored as well as the water supply because of the full swing repair undertaken by the Boracay Waterworks Sewerage System.
The DOT official said that the damaged resorts are mostly made of light materials, nipa and bamboo that were blown away during the height of the typhoon.
"The medium to big hotels and resorts have been barely damaged by the typhoon so the owners just had to do minor repairs," Atty. Camarista contended. They also have their generators so they did not really go dark.
The DOT official further said that the air and sea transportations going to Aklan province and then to Boracay island have already resumed.
She said that hopefully the situation in Boracay could return to normal within this week as the local government unit of Aklan and tourism industry stakeholders there are bent to ensure tourists could enjoy their vacation there.

Meanwhile, the 6th Regional Maritime Group (6th MARIG) has assured security in Boracay Island with the onset of the peak season and some of the participants from the postponed Asean Summit are now in the island to see for themselves its world-acclaimed pristine beaches.
Supt. Agustin Molina, 6th MARIG Regional Officer said they are conducting a continuous monitoring of the security in the island, especially against threat of terrorism.
"We are now in the brink of having it as our priority with the forthcoming Christmas and summer season," he said. "We also coordinated with other agencies that could help us so that hand in hand we would be able to protect and deter all acts of terrorism that might crop up in the area."
Molina emphasized that right now they haven't receive any threat from terrorist groups that would endanger Boracay.
The 6th MARIG has been tasked to supervise the enforcement of the one entry one exit policy in the island. Molina said this has helped them a lot in securing the island with the help of the local police in the island.
"We don't want that we will be surreptitiously entered by some terrorist groups," he said.
Molina further added that they looked forward to the assistance that will be provided by the LGU of Malay to repair their motorboat that was damaged by Typhoon Seniang.
