KBP holds accreditation exam in Aklan
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

BANGA, Aklan – At least 80 media practitioners as far as Antique and Capiz provinces are expected to take the on-air personnel accreditation examinations of Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).
According to IBC DYRG Eleanor Defensor, KBP Aklan secretary, the examinations on unlicensed broadcasters today, November 11, at the Aklan State University (ASU) Banga campus tackled the KBP Broadcast Code and a Refresher’s Course on ethics of broadcasting.
The policy on ‘no accreditation, no broadcast’ is supported by KBP Aklan chapter chairman Augusto Tolentino to professionalize on-air personalities, including volunteers and block timers in the industry and to motivate members to strive for excellence.
All aspiring broadcasters are required to pay the P300 examination fee before the examination, he added.
Defensor said Standards Authority-Performance Officer Virginia Velasco led the accreditation program involving written examinations before a broadcaster is going on-board duty.
KBP’s self-regulation evolved with the broadcast industry developing its code of ethics and standards through consultation and monitoring of its ranks for compliance and violations and has continually updates and reinforces the Television Code, Radio Code and the Technical Standards which are recognized by government authorities.
A major thrust of the KBP is the pursuit of excellence through professionalization. The KBP has consciously worked for programs and activities geared towards manpower development. Through seminars, workshops and conferences, KBP members upgrade the skills of their personnel and improve programming, engineering, production and marketing within the industry.
