SHOW OF HOSPITALITY. Aklan's pride, PAPI president Juan 'Johnny' Dayang opens the first-ever four-day Aklan Media Summit in cooperation with the provincial government of Aklan.
KALIBO, Aklan – The four-day Aklan Media Summit here organized by the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc (PAPI) opened yesterday.
Gov. Carlito Marquez of Aklan hailed PAPI led by its president, Juan “Johnny” Dayang, for choosing the province as the venue.
"The media summit is also a marketing strategy to encourage more investors, particularly in power generation, to propel Aklan's twin programs - tourism and agriculture," he stressed.
The summit banners the theme, "The Role of the Press in Spotlighting the Investment Opportunities in Aklan."
About 100 publishers, editors, reporters, writers, broadcasters and public information officers in the country are gracing the summit.
North Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Pinol, Vice Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino, former Negros Press Club president and columnist Primo Esleyer, Kalibo mayor Raymar Rebaldo and former Aklan solon Allen Salas-Quimpo graced the opening of the summit.
Dayang said the media event also highlights a forum on investment opportunities in Aklan, a journalism seminar on ethics and libel, and an exclusive seminar on strategic communications management and public relations seminar for public information officers and public affairs executives.
"This is also an opportunity for Aklanons to showcase their hospitality,” he pointed out.
On October 28, the delegates will proceed to Boracay Island for a tour. A farewell party and a conferment of awards and citations to outstanding officials culminate the summit here.
