KALIBO, Aklan - Another landmark program which aims to improve agricultural productivity through information communications technology (ICT) was implemented in Buruanga, Aklan.
The Tag-osip-El Progreso Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries’ Multipurpose Cooperative and the BENTCH (Barangays Balusbos, El Progreso, Nazareth, Tag-osip, Cabugan and Habana) Agrarian Reform Community of Buruanga, Aklan is a recipient of the “Agricultural Growth through Information and Knowledge Networking” or e-AGRIKultura Project.
Electronic equipment included in the project are four units of computer with accessories (monitor, modem, CPU, speaker, keyboard, CD writer, floppy disk drive, and licensed software). One unit of printer, scanner, web camera, digital camera, a photocopier comes plus extra supplies.
The project was jointly implemented by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), the Philippine–Australia Technical Support for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (PATSARRD) and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP).
Buruanga was the first site launched on July 28, 2006 among the six centers nationwide. The project aims to establish a viable area-based enterprise in Buruanga that would raise the farmers’ household incomes. Its components include the provision of technical capability building, development of dedicated website, connectivity for internet access, establishment of e-community center designed to facilitate farmer’s access to information on latest agricultural technologies, marketing opportunities and other information which could help them explore potential business development opportunities to enhance their enterprise and farming operations.

Atty. Daniel Y. Martelino, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II of DAR-Aklan, underscored the urgency of this project as it equalizes the playing field among marginal and upland farmers and fisherfolks from Buruanga which is situated at the northwestern tip of Aklan. It further strengthens inter-connectivity and exposes far-flung communities into the state of Information and Communication technology of this era.

Miraflores, Governor Carlito S. Marquez and the community stakeholders of Buruanga led by Hon. Concepcion P. Labindao, Municipal Mayor, and Felipe Panganiban, Jr,. Municipal Agrarian Reform Officer graced the launching.
