Coop to launch ‘Mermaid’ ferry
BYBOY RYAN B. ZABAL

BORACAY – The Caticlan Boracay Transport Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CBTMPC) is set to launch a modern, reliable ferry next month, a top official said.
The 50-seater fast craft, CBTMPC chairman Godofredo Sadiasa said, would augment the existing motorized pump boats; it will provide comfortable and safe travel to tourists visiting the island resort.
“The P1.5-million ‘Mermaid’ fast craft will improve the transport service,” Sadiasa declared.
The launching of the fast craft is set on September 2 to coincide with the 10th year anniversary of CBTMPC.
The cooperative and the tourism industry of Aklan, Sadiasa pointed out, stand to benefit in the promotion of reliable and efficient sea transport services.
The newly acquired ferry – which used to ply the Puerto Galera-Batangas route -- is financed by CBTMPC.
CBTMPC is the sole transport group operating in Aklan primarily in the transport of passengers going to Boracay Island and Caticlan since 1996.
To further enhance the transport business, the CBTMPC also acquired a multi-million fast craft being constructed in Brgy. Rizal, Nabas, Aklan last year.
The fast craft is seen to sustain the non-stop operations of the ferry boat services in the island.
“We are serious in improving the ferry services in the island and enhance the capability of the transport cooperative into a leading transport service provider,” Sadiasa stressed.
The new fast craft would further set the trend towards the compliance to safety standards and world-class facilities in the Caticlan jetty port where it plays a major role in the existing Pan-Philippine Highway in western seaboard, he added.
