BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Kalibo, Aklan – A newly-formed media group in the province is expected to send delegates to the Cotabato Media Summit on August 26-27, this year.
This was confirmed by Aklan Media Forum (AMF) after the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI) officially invited their members last week to the three-day media summit.
AMF, composed of veteran print journalists and radio broadcasters, was organized to foster within the Aklan media a greater sense of responsibility and strengthen its integrity and reputation in the community, stressed Rolly Herrera of DyRG Budyong ng Kalibo.
“We are reaching out to journalism groups representing minorities to join AMF. This would provide a venue for the exchange of ideas and opinions among professionals in various news organizations in the province,” said Arnel Relampago of Kalibo Cable Television Network
The seminar -- part of the three-day North Cotabato Media Summit scheduled in Kidapawan City, August 26 -- is designed to equip practicing journalists and school campus writers skills and full understanding of ethical and responsible reporting in the wake of the unmitigated killings of journalists, particularly those in the countryside.
The summit conceived by PAPI with the support of the Community Press Institute and the host province of Cotabato would gather media delegates in the community to discuss latest trends in print journalism and issues affecting the media organizations.
An exclusive seminar on Strategic Communications Management & Public Relations for information officers and public affairs executives will be conducted by veteran public relations practitioners and communicators as resource speakers.
Bannered by the theme “Showcase of Hope, Freedom and Progress”, the conferment the Good Governance Award to Cotabato Governor Manny Piñol, Strategic Communications Management and Seminar-Workshop and journalism seminar on libel, news writing, editorial and column writing and ethics will highlight the media summit.
“ Really, there exists a growing need to sharpen our skills and enhance our professionalism by strictly adhering to the journalistic code of ethics.” Dayang said.Dayang, a native of Aklan, also thanked Governor Pinol, a seasoned journalist, for his support to PAPI and the media organizations. He added the media summit is part of PAPI’s 32nd year of advocacy and leadership in the community press.
