A new Commission on
Elections (Comelec) provincial supervisor in Aklan assumed on December 28 in
the person of Atty. Gloria Doronilla.
Aklan Provincial Comelec Supervisor Atty.
Ian Lee Ananoria was assigned in Guimaras province to replace Provincial Comelec
Supervisor
Atty. Salud Milagros Villanueva.
Prior to her assignment in
Aklan, Doronilla previously worked in Comelec-Iloilo in 2016 and Comelec-Capiz in
2013.
All Comelec provincial supervisors
in the region were temporarily reassigned or re-shuffled for purposes of the forthcoming
2019 May mid-term national and local elections, according to Comelec-Aklan spokesperson
Crispin Raymund Gerardo.
The poll body has set the
election period from January 13, 2019 to June 12, 2019. The election day is scheduled on May 13, 2019.
Gerardo said the
inter-agency committee of Comelec, Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces
of the Philippines (AFP) also convened the Provincial Joint Security Control
Center to discuss security measures in the province for peaceful and orderly
elections.
“Comelec has the authority
in security and preparations for May mid-term election. Gun ban is also in
effect during the Kalibo, Aklan Ati-Atihan festival,” he stressed.
Prohibited acts during the
election period are the transfer of civil service eligible employees, suspension
of any elective provincial, city, municipal or barangay officer and use of security
personnel or bodyguards by candidates.
Police will also conduct simultaneous
checkpoints across the province of Aklan starting January 13 to ensure compliance
on nationwide gun ban under Comelec Resolution No. 10429.
