Aklan gov’t leaders welcome Ati-Atihan merrymakers, devotees

Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores and Aklan congressman Carlito Marquez shared their best wishes and greetings for devotees, balikbayans and merrymakers of the festive celebration of Kalibo Ati-Atihan festival.

Miraflores said “Ati-Atihan festival is a vital component of Kalibo’s efforts to promote Aklanon culture and boost the tourism industry.”

“It is also a venue to praise, thank God and our Señor Santo Niño for the manifold achievements and abundant blessings we received as a province,” he added.

The governor also stressed “the spectacle of revelry, of rhythmic dancing, of regal display of talents, of grand feast, of products expo, of parade of all festivals showcase the rich culture, traditions, and ingenuity, not only of Kalibo but also of other municipalities of Aklan.”

Marquez, for his part, said “the power of prayer through the collective faith to the Señor Sto. Niño puts all into a common spiritual ground to celebrate life.”

The solon added the Ati-Atihan festival reminded everyone of the true essence of bayanihan – the communal spirit which enables the localities to survive difficult times and animates people to achieve great things for the common good.

“As we keep in step in the tempting rhythm of the Ati-Atihan drums while chanting the prayers to the Child, let us bear in mind that we are keeping a commitment that dates back to our forefathers and shall live on with our descendants,” Marquez added.

“The Santo Niño tells us that we are God’s children. We love Señor Sto. Niño so much. May this love be translated into the message of this Divine Child that each of us put on humility, simplicity in action and respect of person.”

The local officials also lauded the efforts of Kalibo festival organizers for conceptualizing series of distinctive and thrilling Ati-Atihan activities set from January 2 to 20 in Kalibo, Aklan.
