“Iwag it Kalibonhon’ lights up on December 1

The annual lighting ceremony of the giant Christmas tree in Kalibo, Aklan happens on December 1.

To light up the Kalibo Pastrana Park for ‘Iwag it Kalibonhon para sa Mahayag nga Paea-abuton” are top government and private sector leaders beginning at 5 p.m.

Aklan congressman Carlito Marquez, former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Immanuel Sodusta and Harry Sucgang, and Kalibo mayor William Lachica will lead the switch on to illuminate the iconic 60-foot tall Christmas tree. 

Lachica said the lighting ceremony will mark the festive holiday tradition in Kalibo and will feature spectacular fireworks and performances of some Aklan’s best talents. 

“This holiday tradition of lighting up the Christmas tree is always a real draw for visitors and the community,” Lachica stressed. 

Trees around the park are also adorned with multi-colored lights, decorations and lanterns. Local choral groups will sing traditional carols and the fireworks show of Mabuhay Maritime Express and Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles as the grand finale. 

Adding more cheer to ‘Iwag it Kalibonhon” are performances of  Kalibo Municipal Employees Chorale, Key of C Chorale of Aklan National High School of Arts and Trades, Aklan Mission Hospital Employees, Aklan Electric Cooperative Employees and National Child Development Center-Kalibo pre-schoolers.
