Only 14 towns and four cities in Western Visayas were chosen by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) as 2018 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awardees.

The local government units passed all areas on peace and order, environment management, social protection, fiscal administration, business friendliness and competitiveness, disaster preparedness, and tourism, culture and the arts.

In Aklan, the towns of Banga, Buruanga and Kalibo bagged the SGLG for third time in a row. The municipalities of Bugasong, Culasi and San Jose de Buenavista in the province of Antique also got the SGLG for the three consecutive years.

Binalbagan is the lone town in Negros Occidental chosen as this year’s SGLG awardee.

The towns of Bingawan, Oton and Zarraga in Iloilo province also grabbed their third SGLG awards. The other SGLG passers were Duenas, Concepcion, Lambunao and Anilao from Iloilo province.

The city government awardees include the cities of Passi in Iloilo and the cities of San Carlos and Silay in Negros Occidental. They earned the seal for two consecutive years.

Victorias City in Negros Occidental was also named this year’s SGLG recipient.

Last year, Roxas City (Capiz) and the cities of Bago and Sagay in Negros Occidental were recognized as SGLG awardees. In 2016, Roxas City and Iloilo City were the SGLG passers.

Among the provinces, Aklan and Iloilo were three-peat winners of SGLG for the provincial government category. Antique was also chosen this year.

The LGUs performers will receive the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF)  amounting to P2-million for municipal governments, P3-million for provincial governments and P2.4-million for city governments for the implementation of local development projects.
