Vicky to run for Congress in 2019

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Anita Victoria ‘Vicky’ Ramos-Antonino on September 27 announced she will run as congresswoman in the second district of Aklan in the 2019 May mid-term elections.

RAMOS-ANTONINO
She made the announcement three days after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11077 reapportioning the province of Aklan into two legislative districts.

The first district of Aklan is composed of the municipalities of Batan, Balete, Madalag, Libacao, New Washington, Altavas, Kalibo and Banga. The towns of Numancia, Lezo, Malinao, Makato, Tangalan, Ibajay, Nabas, Malay and Buruanga will comprise the second legislative district.

Ramos-Antonino is a registered voter in Malay, Aklan and the daughter of then Congressman Godofredo ‘Goding’ Peralta Ramos, hailed as the Father of Aklan.

“For several months, I consulted my leaders in Aklan. The opposition bloc asked me to run sa Kongreso. Natuwa naman sila na tatakbo ako. Magsisilbi ako sa Aklan, ito ay para sa genuine and sincere public service, to serve and to help the people of Aklan,” she stressed.

Ramos-Antonino personally met Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores on Thursday to explain her plans to run for Congress.

“Our families are close, we are friends also. I went to Capitol for a courtesy call with Governor Miraflores,” she said.

The 68-year old Ramos-Antonino will possibly be challenged by Miraflores or former Aklan congressman Teodorico Haresco, Jr.  in the second legislative district.

On the other hand, the looming tandem of incumbent Kalibo mayor William Lachica for governor and former Makato mayor Ramon Legaspi, Jr. for vice governor seemed to be a done deal.

Ramos-Antonino said she will supporting the Lachica-Legaspi tandem in next year's elections.

The filing of certificates of candidacy will start on October 11 until October 17 in the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices for the 2019 May elections.
