Tamboe Sadsad salvo kicks off 2019 Ati-Atihan

Here’s a sneak peak at what’s coming up in the 2019 Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan festival in Kalibo, Aklan. Organizers have scheduled the ‘Tamboe Sadsad’ opening salvo on October 26 this year.

The special showcase of Ati-Atihan tribes and groups will give the locals and foreigners alike a taste of some of the exciting events and activities happening in the weeklong Ati-Atihan celebration by January.

Kalibo Ati-Atihan festival organizer has officially set the activities from January 11 to 20, 2019 in honor of Sto. Niño de Kalibo.

Close to 40 Ati-Atihan tribes and groups will assemble in the afternoon event of October 26 at XIX Martyrs Street and Arch. Reyes Street for the traditional street dancing along the major streets of Kalibo.

The ‘Tamboe Sadsad opening salvo program follows at Kalibo Pastrana Park with the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) of Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi) and the GMA TV Network.

Sixteen finalists of Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan will have also their first public appearance during the opening salvo. Kasafi is also throwing a ‘Kasadyahan Party’ to culminate the one-day event at Kalibo Magsaysay Park starting at 6 p.m. with popular DJs.

During the security meeting, Kalibo police chief  Superintendent Richard Mepania has reminded that guns, deadly weapons, bringing of bottled alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are not allowed during sadsad or street dancing. Smoking in public places is also prohibited.

The spontaneous street dancing of merrymakers and beating of drums in major streets are allowed until 10 p.m. Traffic rerouting plan will be implemented also on streets leading to Kalibo Pastrana Park.  

The Ati-Atihan festival this January will feature procession-Sto. Niño de Kalibo, paeapak, chapel visitation of Sto. Niño, novena to Senor Sto. Niño,  street dancing contest, float parade, food stalls, day and night merrymaking, exhibits, beauty pageant, car and bike shows, among others.
