Engr. Jose Al Fruto, assistant regional director of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), cited the impact of 10 electric cooperatives from Visayas region tasked to relocate the electric posts affected by main road widening.

DPWH funded the relocation of Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) posts and the construction works of Boracay main road.

“We badly needed the Task Force Kapatid in Boracay. We cannot fully rehabilitate at hindi maibalik at masustained if may maiiwan na mga utilities. Dapat sabay sabay, tulong tulong at nagkakaisa,” he said.

The re-opening of Boracay is scheduled on October 26 after President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire island under state of calamity four months ago to give way to massive clean-up and rehabilitation.

“Ang babalikan ng turista ay better Boracay na. Hopefully in a month, baka mapapaiksi pa natin ang rehabilitasyon,” he added.

Fruto said DPWH started its main road construction on June 29 and has four months left to substantially complete the 4.12-km stretch with a budget of P490-million from Cagban Manoc-Manoc to Balabag plaza.

The road works involve the construction of new drainage systems, bike lanes, pathways and 3-meter wide road on both sides.

“Pag hindi natin napaaga ang paglipat ng electric posts at linya we cannot also complete the kalsada. Kailangan maumpisahan natin ng maaga.Dapat ilagay sa tama ang mga poste na naka-obstruct sa linya ng drainage. Ito ay ililipat sa edge ng 12-meter right-road-of-way,” Fruto said.

Telephone and cable companies also started to relocate their posts obstructing the ongoing widening and upgrading of Boracay main road.

“Maraming sections na nakikita natin na ating ginawa ay magiging maayos, sa may parte ng Lugotan, sa tulong ng DPWH at Task force ay mapapabilis ang pagtrabaho natin sa isla,” Aklan District Engineer Noel Puentebella said.
