The Department of Public
Works and Highways (DPWH) will undertake repair works due to landslides on
uphill portion of Tulingon (Libertad) road.
The road section is just
15 kilometers from Barangay Caticlan in Malay, the main jump-off point for
tourists to Boracay and roll-on roll-off vessels to Batangas and Mindoro.
The stretch is prone to
landslides during heavy rains, prompting the DPWH to close the road to 10-wheeler
trucks plying the route.
With the temporary road
closure, heavy trucks bound to the towns of Malay and Buruanga are advised to
take the longer Pandan junction in Nabas to Libertad, Antique via Buruanga,
Aklan route. Motorists and light vehicles, however, may pass through one lane
going to and from Malay.
Aklan District Engineer
Noel Fuentebella said warning and directional signs are also installed for
public safety and DPWH maintenance crew are assisting the commuters in affected
road portions.
Last December, DPWH
personnel had to clear the national road of Aklan West Road in the barangays of
Libertad and Habana in Nabas after it was partially damaged by road slip and
landslides due to heavy rains caused by Typhoon Urduja.
