The National Food
Authority (NFA) provincial office in Aklan is expected to get 6,000 imported
bags of rice from Thailand for distribution to accredited rice outlets.
The rice supply is part of
the government’s importation program which is scheduled for shipment in the last week of August
or first week of September.
NFA-Aklan provincial
director Josephine Venus Castillo said around 4,000 imported NFA rice from
Thailand were already unloaded in NFA Aklan warehouse for the first shipment this July.
She stressed the low
supply of bags of rice from abroad prompted the agency to limit allotted rice
bags to accredited stores in Aklan at the onset of rainy season.
“Hindi tayo maka-influence
sa presyo ng commercial rice dahil limitado ang NFA rice quantity sa market,”
she added.
Castillo said the
NFA-Aklan allotted every town in Aklan at least 30 bags of rice for accredited rice
retailers for the month of July.
“Ang supply of NFA rice sa
Aklan na galing sa ibang bansa ay limitado. Kinokontrol natin ito dahil na rin
sa rainy season. Pag may tatlong retailers sa isang bayan, nagbibigay tayo ng
15 bags kada retailer,” she said.
The rice agency also
supplied 10 bags of government rice to non-traditional rice outlets in the barangays
for the consuming public.
Castillo said NFA regular
milled rice available in the market is priced at P27 per kilo and the well-milled
rice at P32 per kilo.
