The
province of Aklan is celebrating its 62nd anniversary as an independent
province this April. The Aklan Day on April 25 is a special non-working holiday
by virtue of Republic Act No. 1414 signed by then President Ramon Magsaysay on
April 25, 1956.
Congressman Godofredo 'Goding' Peralta Ramos recognized as the 'Father of Aklan' was instrumental for the approval of the law separating Aklan as a distinct province from Capiz in 1950s.

All
is set for the activities on April 25 as thousands of Aklanons will commemorate
the founding anniversary with a thanksgiving mass at St. John the Baptist
Cathedral at 6:30 a.m. followed by a civic-military parade at 7:30 a.m. from
Kalibo Pastrana Park to Goding Ramos Park.
Aklan
Governor Florencio Miraflores and Aklan Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo will also lead
the commemorative program at Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Sports and Cultural
Center. A concert of music icon Joey Ayala and fireworks display at Goding Ramos Park will
be held also on the same day.
The
Job Fair 2018: Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan, Consumer Awareness Seminar on
Organic Agriculture and Basic Consumer Rights and BOI One Window Network
Capacity Building Training will be conducted on April 26.
The
celebration will be wrapped with a fisheries forum, employees’ night, awarding
of best float and booth in Goding Ramos Park, modern dance competition in ABL
Sports Complex on April 27 and cacao processing on April 28.
Other
activities of the month-long celebration are artificial reef project deployment
in Mabilo Kalibo, Camanci Norte Numancia, Aslum, Bugtong Bato and San Isidro
Ibajay; inauguration of Green House; launching of Aklan BalinkBayan website;
Tsibugan sa Kapitolyo; Opening and Fashion Show of Aklan Pina Fiber 2018; Aklan
Festival Showcase; legislative quiz bee; Governor’s Cup 2018; dog show and awarding
of outstanding taxpayer and recognition of outstanding municipal treasurer
2017.

year’s theme is “Aklan: Sustaining our Gains through Innovative Development.”
