PSA-Aklan surveys fishery sector

BY PETER S. MANGILOG

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is conducting surveys on fisheries in selected sample households and fish landing centers in the province of Aklan.

The four surveys are composed of commercial, municipal, inland, and aquaculture fishing operations, according to Provincial Statistics Officer Antonet Catubuan.

These surveys will generate accurate information on the volume and value of fish unloaded in municipal and commercial landing centers, as well as the volume and value of fish catch in inland fishing households and the fishery production, prices and area by aqua type and species.

Catubuan said the respondents of these surveys are boat operators, technicians, fishermen, traders, and knowledgeable members of the sample household. Data to be collected include volume of unloading in the entire fish landing centers and the price of production from the first point of sale.

PSA-Aklan also stressed that all respondents are encouraged to support the data gathering by providing reliable and correct information to PSA designated data collectors.

The data will be held “strictly confidential” and cannot be used for taxation, investigation or law enforcement purposes as provided for by law, Catubuan added.
