Over
500 acacia seedlings were planted in Barangay Jawili, Tangalan, Aklan in the
simultaneous nationwide Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Oplan
Broadcastreeing on August 15.

KBP
Aklan chapter chairman Allan Palma Sr. said the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR)-Aklan headed by PENRO officer Ivene Reyes identified Barangay
Jawili as this year’s planting site of Oplan Broadcastreeing.
Palma also expressed his appreciation of government agencies for the all-out
support for the green initiatives during the tree
planting in Jawili, a coastal town
in Tangalan, Aklan, which is vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
Hundreds
of volunteers from KBP member-stations in Aklan, volunteer groups and local government
units along with local residents joined hands to fully support
the National Greening Program under Executive Order No. 26 of President Benigno
Simeon Aquino III.
The volunteers and participants who joined the Oplan
Broadcastreeing were the Philippine Army 12th Infantry Battalion, Seals Rescue
Aklan, Philippine Red Cross Aklan Chapter, Kool Earth, Philippine Coast Guard
Auxiliary Aklan, MDRRMO Kalibo and Philippine Information Agency.
Other participants were LGU Tangalan, Kalibo and
Caticlan Airports Multi-purpose Cooperative, Yes FM Boracay, Love Radio Kalibo,
IBC DyRG Kalibo, CBIS Hot FM Kalibo, RMN DyKR, Bombo Radyo Kalibo, Brigada News
FM, Energy FM Kalibo and Jawili Barangay Council.
The
simultaneous nationwide implementation of the Project is in accordance with a
Memorandum of Agreement in April 2011 between the Department of Interior and
Local Government and the KBP, which aims to plant 1.5 billion
seedlings until 2016.
