The classroom serves as evacuation center during
calamities and a special room for visually and hearing impaired children. The
project is constructed in New Washington Elementary School in Poblacion, New
Washington, Aklan, one of the seven towns in Aklan with Noah’s classrooms.
The towns of Altavas, Madalag, Balete, Libacao, Batan and
Banga are also recipients of the construction projects of Globe Platinum, the
premium Prepaid brand of Globe, with Globe rewards. Noah’s Ark, part of “Bulig 4 Aklan”, is
undertaken by Globe as a development partner for Aklan under the Office of the
Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery (OPARR).
The ceremony was attended by Globe Telecom officials,
government officials, media, students and teachers of New Washington Elementary
School.
The seven Noah Ark’s classrooms designed by Habitat for
Humanity for Aklan have toilets, baths and kitchen facilities and could benefit more than
5,000 students.
Globe Telecom will be building also 33 “built-back-better’
regular classrooms in Aklan to accommodate children who were displaced after
their schools were destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda on November 8, 2013.
These classrooms will be funded from the proceeds of Globe’s
enterprise-wide waste management program and Ayala Corporation.
Last year, Globe Voices at Work also mounted a
fundraising concert to rebuild classrooms in Aklan as part of the Globe’s
post-Yolanda rehabilitation efforts.
Globe also started building 40 homes in New Washington in
partnership with Gawad Kalinga and UT Global Foundation. Twenty-eight houses
are also set to be constructed in the town of Libacao and has distributed 600
shelter kits for Yolanda victims.
