Kalibo water district urges to expand services to Makato

The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Makato has passed a resolution urging the Metro Kalibo Water District (MKWD) to extend directly its water services to Makato, Aklan.

The resolution, which was approved in a regular session on April 24, was jointly sponsored by Makato SB members Salvador Tenazas and Renato Tordecillas.

Makato, a 4th class municipality, is located west of the capital town of Kalibo.

Numancia Water District (NWD) is currently servicing the town of Makato while the MKWD is supplying bulk water between 1,000 to 2,000 cubic meters daily for consumers of NWD. The 10-year bulk water supply agreement between MKWD and NWD started on July 2012.

During the regular session, the Sangguniang Bayan members raised concerns of poor services of Numancia Water District, lack of water supply during daytime, unsanitary water supply and additional water costs charged to consumers from Numancia Water District water operations.

Many households in Makato, Aklan also rely on deep wells and water refilling stations for the drinking water.

If expansion will push through, the MKWD has to lay down new primary and secondary pipes to extend its water services to Makato, Aklan, about 12 kilometers from Kalibo, Aklan.

Over the years, MKWD extended its service areas in the towns of New Washington, Banga, Balete and portions of Batan to supply and distribute water.

All of its concessionaires in these towns located in the eastern side of Aklan now enjoy 24-hour safe and quality water services from MKWD.
