Some 23 young boys and
girls who are out of the streets of Boracay at midnight were rounded up by the Boracay
Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC), Municipal Auxiliary Police-Boracay and Boracay
Salaam police volunteers.
They were found violating
the curfew hours in the island during the police operations from April 7 to 9.
Police Officer 3
Christopher Mendoza of BTAC police community relations said the series of round
up operation of minors led by Senior Inspector Frenzy Andrade is a continuing
effort for stricter implementation of the municipal ordinance.
Mendoza said the minors
were turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office in
Barangay Balabag. Most of these children are aged 8-17.
Under the curfew
ordinance, minors are prohibited from loitering in Boracay Island past 10 p.m.
“May ara nga isa ka bata
taga Laserna sa Kalibo kag may ara man mga Bisaya kag Muslim nga mga bata. Ang
mga Ati gin papuli namon kay magutok sa patrol. Ang mga minors gin-dala namon
sa MSWD-Boracay Office,” Mendoza said.
Mendoza also noted that
BTAC recorded zero incidents on theft last Wednesday due to heighten foot and
mobile patrols.
“Wala sang may nagpa-blotter
nga nadula or lost items kagab-i. For two successive nights nga amon pag
monitor sang mga minors, gina pasakay sila sa police patrol kag gin dul-ong sa MSWD,”
he added.
Minors are seen begging,
selling items or either involved in theft incidents or other illegal activities
in Boracay or as victims of crimes.
The curfew enforcement
will continue as part of the Boracay police crackdown to minimize the growing
incidents committed by minors.
