11-hour power outage to hit Aklan, Boracay

Power interruption will hit the province of Aklan and the northern towns of Antique on Sunday as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will have its comprehensive maintenance of the power lines in the areas on April 19. 

The 11-hour power failure will be experienced in the 17 towns of Aklan, including Boracay Island and the towns of Pandan and Libertad in the province of Antique from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Affected are the service areas of Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco), which is the sole electric distributor in Aklan and part of Antique. 

The country’s power grid operator said the maintenance works in Northern Panay on Sunday are expected along 138-kilovolt Dingle-Panit-an transmission line, 138-kilovolt Panit-an-Nabas, associated high-voltage equipment (HVEs) for Dingle, Panit-an, Nabas and Malay sub-stations.

The general public is advised to take the necessary preparations and precautions for this scheduled interruption, Akelco said. 

NGCP is fastracking the maintenance works in preparation for the two ministerial meetings of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Aklan this May.

Boracay Island is hosting the Senior Officials Meeting  from May 10 to 21, 2015 and the Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) on May 23 to 24, 20l5.
