A retired public school teacher in Kalibo, Aklan lost her cash, wrist watches and jewelries worth P100,000 to three persons of a swindling gang or locally known as Budol-Budol gang on Friday morning.

Rose Bora, 69, was befriended by three persons while she was walking near the Adoracion chapel of Saint John the Baptist Cathedral in Barangay Poblacion, this town, at around 10:30 a.m.

Bora, widow and a resident of New Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan, told the local police that an unidentified woman approached her and another man arrived while they were having a conversation.

The unidentified woman also talked to the victim and introduced herself as her former elementary school student.

Another female suspect went closer to them and gave her a padlocked black pouch bag allegedly with P100,000 money as payment for the fire extinguishers they purchased.

Police said Bora was convinced by the suspects to put into the small bag her P15,000 cash, a pair of gold earrings, three women’s wrist watches, four men’s wrist watches, two pairs of diamond rings and two gold necklaces.

The victim went home after she was advised by the suspects to wait for them for lunch.

When the Budol-Budol gang members did not come back, Bora’s family members checked the content of the pouch bag left in their possession. They discovered that it contained not bundles of money but bundles of notebooks.

Chief Inspector Pedro Enriquez, police chief of Kalibo, urged the public to be vigilant at all times against the suspected members of Budol-Budol scam. He also reminded them, especially senior citizens, not to trust and talk to strangers.

Local police are now investigating the modus operandi of the Budol-Budol gang.
