Boracay hosts int’l events next year

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

The pristine beaches and breath-taking beauty are enough reasons why Boracay Island is always the prime venue of conferences.

By 2015, two international events will be hosted by the famed Boracay Island, a regional tourism official said.

Tourism director Atty. Helen Catalbas said meetings of judges and Supreme Court justices from the Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ministers of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will strongly push the tourism potentials of Boracay in the world market.

Catalbas said delegates of the member-states of ASEAN will gather in Boracay for the 2015 ASEAN Chief Justices Meeting and the ASEAN Law Association (ALA) conference on February 2015.

Some 700 delegates from ALA, a non-governmental organization of judges, law teachers, law practitioners and government lawyers in the ASEAN region, are expected to grace the conference.

Meetings of ALA are aimed to promote close relations and mutual understanding among the ASEAN judiciaries and to provide a regular forum for the ASEAN Chief Justices to discuss and exchange views on common issues facing the ASEAN judiciaries.

The ASEAN is comprises of 10 member countries - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Boracay will also host the second Senior Official Meetings and Related Meetings from May 10 to 21, 2015 with 1,900 APEC delegates.

On May 23 to 24, 2015, the island resort will be the venue of the Ministers Responsible for Trade Meetings for 600 delegates.
