The towns of Kalibo,
Banga and Malay have the highest number of dengue cases listed from January 1
to July 1 this year in the province of Aklan, according to the Provincial
Health Office (PHO)-Aklan.
The number of dengue cases in Aklan climbed to 424 from 256 or an
increase of 65.63 percent for the first six months this year compared to the
same period last year.
The capital town of Kalibo recorded the highest number of dengue cases
with 90 followed by Banga with 50 and Malay had 44 cases.
New Washington came in fourth with 32 and Numancia reported 31 cases.
The other towns with dengue fever cases include Altavas (24), Nabas and
Tangalan with 19 cases each, Balete (15), Madalag (14), Batan and Malinao had
13 cases each, Makato (11), Ibajay (10), Buruanga and Lezo had six cases
each.
Dengue cases also surged in the months of June with 114 and January
with 102. The month of February also recorded a high of 71 cases so far.
Most of the dengue patients were aged 11 to 20 years old with 172 cases
followed by patients aged 21-30 years old with 103 cases.
Dengue fever cases of aged one to 10 years old had 92 cases.
The Department of Health (DoH) urged the public to support government’s
programs against the deadly disease through enhanced dengue surveillance and
nonstop advocacy for collaborative action against dengue.
As to the number of measles cases, PHO-Aklan registered 77 compared to
six cases last year.
Typhoid fever cases also recorded an increase of 88 percent with 309
cases from 164 for the period January 1 to July 1.
