Relocation for families affected by Kalibo-Numancia bridge project

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Affected families will be relocated to make way to the ongoing construction of the new multi-million Kalibo-Numancia bridge, according to Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores.

Twenty-seven families will be displaced by the P370-million bridge project along Aklan East Road undertaken by the national government and the province of Aklan.

The new bridge directly hit the residential houses made of light materials that have been occupying the area for years.

Miraflores said the provincial government has offered financial assistance and roofing materials for the immediate resettlement of family members.

Settlers living in the present Kalibo-Numancia bridge will have also their resettlement site.

The governor stressed a suitable relocation site in the town of Makato is being studied probably near the circumferential road tourism project.

The construction of the Makato by-pass in Makato, Aklan is part of the Department of Public Works and Highways P795-million infrastructure program for Aklan for 2014.

The project across Aklan River and built adjacent of the old Kalibo-Numancia bridge could decongest perennial traffic in the area. It has 15 spans measuring 30 meters each with a width of 7.32 meters.

The project is targeted for completion by next year.
