Metered taxis soon to service Kalibo airport

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

To make travelling easier, metered airport taxi services will soon be offered to departing and arriving passengers of Kalibo International Airport.

Kalibo Sangguniang Bayan member Augusto Tolentino, chairman on committee on transportation, said the yellow metered airport cabs will service 24/7 from Kalibo International Airport to any point in Aklan and outside the province.

Tolentino said the rates of airport metered taxis are regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

The airport taxi drivers will be using their cab meters to charge their passengers, he added.

“Airport taxis should not pick passengers on the way, even after bringing their passengers to their destinations, to protect the livelihood of jeepney, van, tricycle and bus drivers,” he said.

Tolentino said taxi drivers are required to wear uniforms and shoes, should be well-mannered and courteous to passengers. Air-conditioned metered taxi units equipped with receipt-issuing meters and two-way radios will be provided by a private company, he stressed.

Rent-a-cars and tourist vans are also readily available in Kalibo airport, just across the airport terminal building.

Kalibo International Airport is the main airport in Aklan handling both domestic and international flights from Manila, South Korea, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and mainland China.

Kalibo serves as an important gateway to the renowned Boracay Island and other eco-tourism destinations in the province of Aklan.
