Aklan cops test negative for drugs

Policemen of Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) who undergo surprise drug tests on Monday were tested negative for illegal drug use, in an interview of Bombo Radyo Kalibo.


Except for one uniformed police personnel who was in Iloilo City during the surprise urine test examination, all of them including two officers of PAIDSOTG and the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) yielded negative results for the presence of any illegal substances.


Aklan PAIDSOTG chief Inspector Wilfredo Hofilena and APPO acting police director Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion also submitted themselves to drug testing examination.


The urine samples of 21 policemen were screened by Senior Inspector Alvin Pascual, chemist of Aklan Scene of Crime Operations at Camp Pastor Martelino in Barangay New Buswang in Kalibo, Aklan. 


Nacion ordered the surprise drug tests on Monday afternoon for PAIDSOTG, the task force conducting the anti-drug trafficking campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the municipalities.


Meanwhile, a high school security guard in Altavas, Aklan and his wife were arrested by joint elements of PAIDSOTG, Altavas police station and the Aklan Public Safety Company in a buy-bust operation on Tuesday afternoon.


Fifty-three year old Marlo Vargas was collared in his house at Barangay Man-up, Altavas, Aklan, about 35 kms east of the capital town of Kalibo. 


Vargas is employed as Security Guard I of Altavas National High School in Barangay Poblacion, Altavas, Aklan for 16 years.


Recovered from the operations were eight plastic sachets containing the suspected shabu, disposable lighter, wallet and the marked money worth P1,000.


Both were detained at Altavas police station pending the filing of charges for violations of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Acts of 2002.
