Two high school athletes from
Aklan will carry the white and light blue colors of Western Visayas to defend their crowns in centerpiece athletics events in the upcoming
Palarong Pambansa in Sta. Cruz, Laguna from May 4 to 10.

The 15-year old Angelica De Josef, a third
year student of Lezo Integrated School in Lezo, Aklan, will see action in the 800-meters
secondary girls.
In last year’s Palarong Pambansa edition in Dumaguete City, the
barefoot runner broke the 18-year old record established in 1995 with a time of
2:17.2.
Jerremae Rubias, 16, of
Tangalan National High School will compete in javelin throw secondary girls.
Rubias took the gold medal
in 2013 Palarong Pambansa in javelin throw event with a heave of 39.59 meters.
She claimed the gold in Western Visayas regional meet in 40.15 meters to
represent the region in Laguna Palarong Pambansa.
Aklan is sending 20
athletes for the Palarong Pambansa to compete in chess, athletics, boxing,
basketball, taekwondo, tennis, arnis and swimming events.
WV delegation will compete in 15 events in elementary and and 17 events in secondary. The delegation will be billeted at Crisanto Guysayko Memorial Elementary School in Nagcarlan, Laguna.
The 57th edition
of the national sports meet will be held in Barangay Bubukal in Sta. Cruz,
Laguna which will be attended by 17,000 athletes
from 17 regions in the country.
Laguna, for the first
time, will host the multi-sports event under the partnership of Laguna Governor
Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito Estregan and Department of Education (DepEd) Region IV-A
(Calabarzon).
This year’s theme is ‘Sports:
A Way of Life.”
