Super peak season in Boracay draws more tourists

BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Over 10,000 hotel rooms in Boracay Island are at full occupancy ahead of the Holy Week, according to Department of Tourism (DoT)-Boracay.

Tourism officer Artemio Ticar, Jr. said the resort-island is jam-packed with foreigners and local tourists as the weather heats up in the super peak months.

“May ilang rooms pa rin ang available, yung mga nasa looban na lang na mga resorts (There are resorts in the interior area of Boracay Island with available rooms),” he said.

Some resorts, for instance, are accommodating horde of tourists as low as P3,200 for overnight stay on Good Friday.

Most hotels here increased accommodation rates in the super peak Lenten season and started receiving reservations months before the celebration of Holy Week.

During low or peak months, resorts and hotels charged as low as P1,200 for an overnight accommodation.

From March to May, the resort-island registered 441,881 tourist arrivals or 32 percent of the total tourists last year.

Ticar said the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC) has beefed up its security measures to ensure maximum police presence for the Holy Week and summer season.

Public should be vigilant and ready for untoward incidents in anticipation of increase petty crimes in Boracay Island.

Ticar said information centers along the White Beach, drinking water stations of Boracay Island Water Company and first aid stations by Philippine National Red Cross-Boracay will be put up also for the Lenten season.

The Department of Tourism (DoT) Boracay office is open for the Holy Week to assist the tourists and to provide comprehensive information on Boracay activities and other concerns, he added.
