Aklan marks 58th founding anniversary

Aklan province has lined up activities in celebration of its 58th founding anniversary this April.


April 25 of every year was declared as a special non-working holiday in the entire province of Aklan by virtue of Republic Act No. 1414 signed by then President Ramon Magsaysay in 1956.


Godofredo Peralta Ramos during his time as 3rd District of Capiz congressman filed a bill in Congress for Aklan to be a separate province from Capiz.


To mark the milestone, the provincial government kicked off the activities with an inter-department sports fest last April 1.


There will be Aklan Pina and Fiber Festival and Tsibugan sa Kapitolyo at the Provincial Capitol grounds from April 22 to 27.


Aklan Horticultural garden show, agri-industrial fair One Town One Product, dog show and Farmer’s day will be showcased also to commemorate the anniversary.  


This year’s anniversary will also feature the awarding ceremony of the outstanding taxpayers and municipal treasurers by the Provincial Treasurer’s Office on April 24 to be held in the lobby of the Provincial Capitol Building.


On April 25, the events start off with thanksgiving mass officiated by Kalibo Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc at Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and a civic military parade from Kalibo Pastrana Park to Provincial Capitol grounds to highlight the weeklong celebration.


Engr. Roger Esto, the head of Provincial Planning and Development Office, said members of Philippine Councilors League (PCL) of Aklan and Capiz will have also their friendly basketball game at ABL Sports and Cultural Center.


In the evening, the provincial government will also recognize the individuals, non-government organizations and companies helping out in the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda.

A cultural exchange presentation of Aklan and Capiz and fireworks display will cap the celebrations.
