Archie Sarabia of New Washington Elementary School in Aklan ruled
the elementary boys’ shotput in the opening day of athletics event of the 2014
Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet in San Jose,
Antique.
Sarabia bagged the gold in his sixth and last attempt with
a heave of 8.73 meters to lead the field of region’s best shotput athletes.
Romulo Malones of Iloilo took the silver medal with a heave of 8.62 meters.
Negros Occidental’s John Paul Plomeda claimed the bronze in
8.57 meters.
Batang Pinoy bemedalled athlete Angelica de Josef also settled
for silver medal in secondary girls’ 400 meters run.
De Josef of Lezo Integrated School in Lezo, Aklan clocked
1:00.02 behind Palarong Pambansa veteran Louielyn Pamatian of Bago City, Negros
Occidental after registering 58.9 seconds.
Negrense Joycie Beranio also won the bronze in 1:02.18.
In the 400 meters elementary boys, Christian Paul
Tiongson of Aklan placed third with a time of 1:00.37. Lynch Mananguil of
Negros captured the gold in 58.04 seconds while Feb Bryan Veles of Iloilo took
the silver in 58.60 seconds.
Noli Gallardo of Aklan also made 4.98-meter in elementary boys’ long
jump event to capture the bronze medal.
Karl Louie Calaguin of Iloilo leapt 5.35 meters to bag
the gold. Luke Mailem of Negros Occidental nailed the silver with a leap of 5.02
meters.
