finish for Aklan’s discus throwers

Aklan
bets in discus throw elementary boys pulled off a 1-2 finish for Western
Visayas in the second day of athletics competition of the 2013 Palarong
Pambansa in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Jil Iron Tabuena, 13, of
Numancia Integrated School ruled
the discus throw in 32.14 meters while his 12-year old teammate Kent Dormido of Batan Elementary School grabbed the silver in
30.32 meters.
Calabarzon’s Ricardo Cubol
settled for bronze in 28.11 meters.
Tabuena,
who improved his personal best by nearly four meters from 28.35 meters, actually
took the silver in the regional meet in Roxas City this year.
Dormido
also improved his personal record of 29.05 meters when he ruled the discus
throw event in Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet.
Western
Visayas also bagged two golds in arnis events at the Holy Cross High School
Gym.

Crystal
AJ Bartonico of Jalandoni Memorial National High School Iloilo City also ruled
the Anyo (individual single weapon) secondary girls.
The
14-year old Ilongga collected 87.40 points to win the gold over Catherine
Suarez of Central Visayas (86.00 points)
and Shaira Jane Salingbay of Cordillera Administrative Region (85.90 points).
Federick
Lanz Bonitillo of Janiuay Pilot Elementary School-Iloilo nailed the bronze in
elementary boys arnis anyo (individual single weapon) with 45.10 points.
Elemer
Manlapas of National Capital Region topped the event with 45.50 points while
Paul Simon Aguirre of Davao Region with 45.40 points.
Berna
Luz Talaron, 12, of Balabago Elementary School Iloilo, ruled the elementary
girls triple jump in 10.19 meters to edge Leica Marie Antonio of Cagayan Valley
(10.14 meters) and Missy Hannah Cacho of Ilocos Region (10.07 meters).
Renzy
John Gemolaga of Cambito
National High School-Iloilo took the bronze in secondary boys javelin
throw in 55.10 meters.
Bryan
Jay Pacheco of Central Luzon settled for silver in 57.81 meters and Joshua
Vincent Patalud of National Capital Region posted a heave of 56.75 meters for
the gold.
