KALIBO, Aklan – Kalibo Pilot Elementary School Researchers bagged the First Place in the recently concluded 15th Regional Science and Technology Fair held last October 16-17, 2011 at Iloilo National High School, Iloilo City.
Sophia Therese L. Pamati-an, (daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Alex B. Pamati-an, Jr. of Kalibo, Aklan) and Sophia Marie P. Reyes (daughter of Simeon Reyes of Navitas, Numancia, Aklan) both in Grade Five and studying at Kalibo Pilot Elementary School defended their study entitled “Nut Grass (Cyperus Rotundus) as Biopesticide” and were declared Champion in the Physical Science - Team Category (Elementary Level).
They competed with other 24 participants in the regional level coming from the different division in region VI. They were selected as one of the Top Six Finalist and were subjected to Congress, after which they were declared as Champion.
Their research adviser was Mrs. Ellen Alejandro-Villegas, Teacher III of Kalibo Pilot Elementary School. They will be representing the Region VI in the 9th National Science Quest in Baguio City on February 10-12, 2012.
Also won as Top Six Finalist was Martin James L. Cañeda in his study entitled “Sweet Potato (Ipomoea Batatas) Starch and Flour as Bioplastic. Martin is son of Mrs. Gina L. Caneda of Malinao, Aklan. He is a grade five pupil of Kalibo Pilot Elementary School. His research adviser is also Mrs. Ellen A. Villegas.
