Nacion assumes command as Boracay police chiefBY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL
BORACAY – A new chief of the Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO) has assumed command after the Holy Week celebration here.
After serving for one year as deputy provincial police director for administration, Superintendent Samuel Nacion took over the post from outgoing BSTPO chief Superintendent Rolando Vilar.
Nacion also served as officer-in-charge of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) following the transfer of Senior Superintendent Epifanio Bragais, Jr. in Camp Crame on January this year.
Vilar will be reassigned at APPO in Camp Pastor Martelino as the new deputy director for administration.
For his part, APPO acting police director Senior Superintendent Cornelio Defensor, who replaced Nacion as officer-in-charge, said the revamp is a normal and regular movement in the police force under his command.
Nacion said the tourist-trained police are encouraged to strengthen the existing community-police partnership and to maintain peace and order and the safety of tourists and residents in the island.
He stressed that the forging of partnership with stakeholders and a responsive community in the island is one of his priorities as BSTPO chief.
BSTPO is one of the country's model police stations and a regular recipient of training programs under the Integrated Transformation Program of the Philippine National Police (PNP). The resort island has three barangays - Yapak, Balabag and Manoc-Manoc.
