KALIBO, Aklan - The 12th Pina and Fiber Festival this year showcasing Aklan's finest pina and abaca products opened on Friday.
The event, which is a joint undertaking of the Department of Trade and Industry and the provincial government of Aklan in cooperation with local exhibitors, is one of the highlights of the 55th Aklan anniversary.
Among the products on display by exhibitors from Hugod Aklanon Producers Association and Aklan Pina Manufucturers and Indigeneous Fibers Traders Association at the Trade Hall in provincial capitol grounds are world-class pina cloth, abaca and raffia loomwoven fabrics and souvenir items, engineered bamboos, special delicacies, hand-made paper crafts, bakery products and furnishings.
The festival which runs from April 25 to 30 is supported by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Aklan Chapter, Congressional District Office and the Fiber Industry Development Authority.
Also on display are the One-Town One-Product booths of the municipalities, agri-aqua products of community-based organizations and agencies and the contemporary lifestyle setting of living spaces of PJ Aranador.
Other activities lined-up by the provincial government of Aklan to commemorate the 55th Aklan anniversary are Tsibugan sa Kapitolyo year 9, awarding of Outstanding Aklanons, thanksgiving mass at Saint John the Baptist Cathedral, civic-military parade and commemorative program, awarding of the 3rd Regreening and Beautification program and Pagtililipon, a cultural exchange program between the province of Aklan and the mother province of Capiz.
