KALIBO, Aklan - Nine bowling teams will see action in the 4th Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo- Quimpo Aklan Media Bowling Cup on April 9 at the Q-Zone Bowling Center at Capitol Site, this town.
Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) and Aklan Photographic Society (APS) confirmed its participation in the weeklong bowling tournament next month, bringing to nine the total number of teams in this one-of-a-kind tourney.
Aklan Police Provincial Office, Alpha Media, Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Aklan Chapter, Charlie Media, Judiciary I, Bravo Media and Judiciary II complete the bowling cup cast.
The tournament format calls for the nine teams to play in a single round robin eliminations. The top six finishers after the eliminations gain outright tickets to the semifinals.
The top bottom-ranked teams will play a knockout game for fifth place while the top four-ranked teams will play cross-over knockout games to earn outright passage to the finals on April 16. Now on its 4th year, the bowling cup aims to foster camaraderie, friendship and sportsmanship among the players.
Organized under the auspices of Aklan media organizations, the friendly bowling tournament opening ceremony starts at 3 p.m. on April 9 with Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo invited to deliver her inspirational message to more than 70 bowling players.
This year's edition, Alpha Media has the inside track to the championship as it will try to defend its Aklan Media Bowling Cup title. Last year's runner-up Aklan Police Provincial Office and third placer Charlie Media also face tough challenge against the top bowlers of Aklan SP, Judiciary I, Bravo Media and Judiciary II.
IBP Aklan and APS are the teams that could pull off huge upsets in the bowling tournament.
