Aklan cops collar illegal gamblers

KALIBO, Aklan - Police arrested four violators, including two women, allegedly engaged in illegal gambling in the western town of Nabas on Wednesday night.
Acting Aklan police director Senior Superintendent Cornelio Defensor identified the suspects as Celerina Solidum, 46, widow of Unidos, Nabas, Aklan; Jose Castillo, 41, of Buenasuerte, Nabas, Aklan; Zenaida Cahilig, 60 and Jelmar Sulat, 29, both of Libertad, Nabas, Aklan.
The suspects were arrested by the Nabas local police and the Aklan Criminal Investigation and Detection Team while they are consolidating their bets in a sari-sari store in Libertad, Nabas, Aklan.
Police confiscated some P1,000.50 bet money, EZ2 gambling paraphernalia and several papers containing combinations for the illegal numbers game.
The suspects are facing charges for their involvement in illegal numbers game.They are presently detained at the Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Nalook, this town.
Defensor said the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) has intensified its drive against all forms of illegal gambling activities in the province in response to the directive of Philippine National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo.
