Sa Kabilugan ng Buwan
BY JINGGOY I. SALVADOR

Oh, it's that time of the month- Luna is at her fullest and shining with all her might. More than the illumination, there are some other areas she seems to be provoking.
The tides are affected and a good number of humans are shifting personality modes as well. Not at all terrifying, unless your kind splits in half at midnight or roaming freely outside the confines of a fully-padded cell. For those lunatics who are in full control of their being they find their outlets to amuse themselves.
That is not a problem at all when you are in the island where everybody solicits smiles whenever its name comes out from their lips- Boracay. Not Bora but Boracay. Those who frequent the island would know and understand why the locals are adamant in having everyone say their island's name properly. That's just the key word, it is but proper. So when you meet some hip trying to be cool 'dude' saying Bora, chances are it's their first time to step in the island. Have you noticed that's it's only the Pinoys who say Bora?
In Boracay, when the moon is in a perfect circle, you hear the boom-booms in the island. No, you are not going crazy, you are not the only one hearing the sound. It is the sound of the Jungle Bar, the Bombom Boys' party sanctuary where everyone is welcome to have a great time and take home fond memories not even a photograph can capture.
The full moon party has become a tradition at the Jungle Bar. It is a favorite hang-out of the locals and their visiting friends. The remote location of this joint somehow made it a "private" hang-out by the locals who prefer the seclusion from the maddening crowd.
Back then, the Jungle Bar was at the far end of the White Beach, unreachable by wheeled transport. Everyone has to walk a good fifteen minutes or so from the nearest vehicle stop to get to this watering hole. Come to think of it, it is the oasis in your journey. But it's well worth the travel.
A few months back they have relocated to the other side of the island, a cove along the Bolabog Beach, still at the far end of the stretch.
Follow the sound of the beating drum or watch out for the signature giant teardrop lamp, that is your landmark and it will lead you to your destination. Jungle Bar still bears its charm of "hard to get to but hard to part from" even if a service road was paved to make it easier to reach. Getting there is just a few steps nowadays from your tricycle ride.
At their new spot, the revelry, full moon or not, has not diminished it's excitement at all. In fact, its easy access has attracted more people and the ring of friends is certainly growing.
The Bombom Boys wouldn't have it any other way. Jungle Bar started out as a place to hang-out, serve a few drinks and perform their fire dancing acts and play their music for friends and those who got lured in by the Pied Piper drumbeating while strolling the pristine shoreline.
Today, they are reaping the fruits of their music. Be sure to check out the Jungle Bar when you head to Boracay (not Bora). You don't have to wait for the full moon to party.
