BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan - Rod Quimpo was proclaimed winner in the District 5 election by the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO) comprising the towns of Numancia and Kalibo.
Quimpo garnered 2,764 votes against his closest rival Francisco Ilejay with 970 votes. Former barangay captain Errol Fulgencio had 711 votes followed by publisher Engr. Winston Carillo with 640 votes.
Earlier, Akelco's screening committee disqualified Engr. Odonel Radislao from seeking election for the board of director on the ground that he was not a bonafide member of Akelco.
More than 5,000 member-consumers from 32 barangays of Kalibo and Numancia participated in the District 5 election yesterday.
This coming December 11, 2010 will be the schedule for the District 7, which covers the towns of Batan and New Washington. Akelco also scheduled the District 3 election for Nabas and Ibajay municipalities.
