Akelco holds elections for 3 districts

KALIBO, Aklan - The sole electric cooperative in the province will hold its District elections next month to elect new board of directors.
Electric consumers of Kalibo and Numancia in District V will elect their board of director on December 4 followed by New Washington and Batan of District VII on December 11 and District III which covers the towns of Nabas and Ibajay on December 18.
Akelco has 10 districts in the area of coverage which includes Malay and Buruanga (District I), Pandan and Libertad (District II), Makato and Tangalan (District IV), Lezo and Malinao (District VI), Altavas and Balete (District VIII), Banga, Libacao and Madalag (District IX) and Boracay Island (District X).
After the district elections in Aklan-based power coop, the new board of directors will be required to attend the seminar on corporate good governance course and on cooperative management course. The board of directors of District 5, 3 and 7 will serve for three years.
Earlier, Akelco has signed a power supply agreement with the independent power producer Green Core Geothermal, Inc. (GCGI) for a 10-year supply deal for 18 megawatts base load to ensure a steady and reliable power for the province of Aklan and the island of Boracay.
Aside from GCGI, the electric cooperative also sourced its power requirements from the National Power Corporation and the Panay Power Corporation.
Akelco under the helm of general manager Chito Peralta was a recipient of the Grand People's Development Academy (PDA) award from 2005- 2009 and Administrator's award by the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
Last year, Akelco has 105,995 member-consumers in 19 towns of Aklan, including two municipalities of Antique. It has a collection efficiency of 102.01 percent and systems loss of 8.17 percent, data from Akelco website showed.
