MALAY, AKLAN – To enhance the security of the premier tourist port in Aklan, the provincial government has installed state-of-the-art x-ray machine for inbound travelers and residents of Boracay.
Caticlan jetty port administrator Nieven Maquirang said a new security x-ray scanner made its debut last week as part of the provincial government’s commitment for jetty port security.
“The jetty port needs improvement in the security and safety. The x-ray unit provides a higher level of security for tourists going to Boracay Island to complement the security checkers in the Caticlan jetty port,” he said.
Maquirang stressed high-resolution x-ray units will also be installed by the provincial government early next year for the passengers of roll-on roll-off vessels. Caticlan port is a strategic component of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway in the western seaboard.
“To provide maximum convenience, turnstiles in jetty port are now installed for roll-on roll-off passengers where they are using electronic payment cards when they board roro vessels,” he added.
For enhanced security at the jetty port, all departing tourists to Boracay Island must walk through the metal detector and their baggages and items must go through the x-ray machine before embarking in the motorized pump boats for Cagban jetty port.
As this developed, the provincial government will also implement the single ticketing system that provides for one-time cost for the terminal, environmental and boat fees for tourists and residents going to Boracay Island.
Terminal and environmental fees are charged to all non-Aklanon departing passengers to the island.
Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism (DoT) conducted trainings for tourism assistants assigned at tourism counters in Caticlan and Cagban ports and the Caticlan and Kalibo International airports to improve their services.
