KALIBO, Aklan – As thousands of Aklanons expected to visit cemeteries for their departed family members, the local police force here went on full alert.
The security preparations of Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) are now in place for the traditional observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day.
According to Senior Superintendent Epifanio Bragais, Jr. police assistance centers at the cemetery vicinities would be put up to maintain order, provide assistance and security for commuters and motorists.
Traffic rerouting around the cemeteries in the capital town of Kalibo will be implemented for an orderly and peaceful commemoration of All Saints’ Day. Bragais also reminded the residents of the ongoing gun ban, prohibition of deadly weapons and liquor inside the cemeteries.
In Kalibo, which is home to four public cemeteries along Quezon Avenue and Osmena Avenue, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has tapped force-multipliers and the Kalibo Auxiliary Police (KAP) in keeping peace and order.
Flowers and candles are also in demand over the weekend as thousands of faithful prepare to visit their family gravesites.
Up in Caticlan, Malay, Aklan, the local police and the Philippine Coast Guard are on alert status in anticipation of travelers who troop to the provinces for the long weekend holidays via the Caticlan port, the main jump-off point to Boracay Island.
At the same time, the Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office has deployed policemen and civilian volunteers in strategic areas for the sacred and peaceful observance of All Saints' Day in the island.
All Saints' Day is a celebration of all Christian saints, particularly those who have no special feast days of their own, in many Roman Catholic, Anglican and Protestant churches. In many western churches it is annually held November 1 and in many eastern churches it is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost. It is also known as All Hallows Tide, All-Hallomas, or All Hallows' Day.
